Day 9

Well today was not a good day. I half-assed my way through a Turbo Jam Cardio Party workout, and I have pretty much declared that I am a carbo-o-holic. I am addicted to carbs and I eat way too many of them throughout the day for no other reason than that I am bored. I don't even want to list everything that I ate today, but I will, if only for the sheer embarassment in hopes that I won't let myself get away with doing it again. Whenever I start binging, I always think "oh I'll do better tomorrow, but today I'm eating whatever I want!" Now this is a bad thing since I seem to do it everytime I start a diet or start watching what I eat. Anyway, even though I am reluctant I will still list what I ate today. I did workout, like I mentioned, but it was not a very good nor hard workout.

Today's Eats:
Tortellini Pasta with sundried tomato alfredo sauce and zucchini
Limeade
Lucky Charms with 1% milk
1 Piece of wheat toast with PB
Breyer's Coffee Ice Cream with magic shell
Blue Chips
Hummus
Granola Bar
Tortellini with beef and sundried tomato alfredo sauce
Kashi Cheddar crackers
hardly any water and NO VEGETABLES! ahh!

Total Calories....drum roll please....: 2,473

Sick! That is like 1,000 more calories than I need for an entire day! SO, what now? Tomorrow I really will do better and I will eat more vegetables and drink more water, no matter what I'm craving or how bored I get! Tomorrow WILL be better!

Day 8

I have learned today that it is easier to just workout than to make up an excuse not to. I debated back and forth all day on whether or not I "wanted" to workout. Now I don't do ANYTHING all day, but I still had to make myself workout today. It's probaby just being lazy, but it takes a lot for me to get off of my butt and turn on the workout video or go outside for a run. However, today was a little different because I knew that I would have to blog about my day later on. I thought, "I can either come up with a lame-o excuse of why I didn't workout today and talk about how I will do better "tomorrow" like I always do, OR I could get off of my butt, have a workout to blog about, and start making my "tomorrows" today." So all of that to say, I don't have an excuse for not working out because I did workout today! I did about 20 minutes of cardio (walking and Turbo Jam) and 40 minutes of circut training (Turbo Sculpt). I feel better when I workout, it just takes a little mind game to get me going!

Today's Eats:
Kashi Oatmeal Cookie
Kashi Cheddar Crackers
Granny Smith Apple
Lucky Charms with 1% milk
Limeade
Hummus
Blue Chips
Tortellini Pasta
Zucchini
Breyer's Ice Cream with Magic Shell
Water

Total Calories: 1,430

water
2 pieces veggie pizza
1 White Russian
1 pc PB toast on wheat bread

Total Calories: 1,635

Day 6 (9/14/08)

I did not have time to blog yesterday about what I ate so I am just going to make up for it right now. I did not workout because it was Sunday.

Today's Eats:
1/2 of chicken salad melt sandwich on sourdough bread
french fries with ketchup
pickles
water
lucky charms with 1% milk

spinach/artichoke dip with 2 pieces french bread

Total Calories: 1,208

I didn't get enough fruits or vegetables today, but I did well with the portions that I ate.

Week Overview

This week has been a good start overall. There is definitely room for improvement, but then again, that is why I'm keeping this blog! I think that I am off to a good start as far as running goes. I do think that I should vary my cardio workouts so that I don't get sick of running too quickly. Once we are in our apartment, I will be able to go to the fitness room and will be able to use various cardio machines, which will help in not getting bored. I do need to incorporate more weight exercises throughout the week as well. As far as food goes, I need to watch the sweets and the snacks that are mostly carbs.

Week's Totals:
Desserts: 10
Pasta: 3
Beef: 4
Snacks: 14
Non-water Beverages: 4
Fruit/Vegetables: 16
So...

Goals for Next Week:
1. I will only eat dessert 2 times throughout the week.
2. I will workout 5 days of the week.
3. I will incorporate more circuit training in my exercises.
4. I will only eat 1 snack throughout the day that is not a fruit or vegetable. (ie: crackers, tortilla chips, pita chips, etc.)
5. I will start tracking my caloric intake each day.
6. I will drink no more than 12 oz of a non-water beverage each day.
7. I will only eat pasta 1 time this week.
8. I will only eat beef 1 time this week.
9. I will eat 5 servings of fruits/vegetables daily.

We'll see how this goes, but now that I have started somewhat of a routine and am thinking more about what I am eating, I need to buckle down and follow some rules. So here goes!

Day 5

Well today has not been the best as far as food goes. I think I was just eating because I was bored. I need to find something to do to take my mind off of food when I start getting bored and start craving junk food. I did go running today though. It was later in the day than usual so it was a bit warmer which made it a little harder. I made it a little over 1 and 1/2 times around the track at the park running and then I walked the rest of the second lap. At least I was able to get some sort of exercise in for a Saturday. Also, because of days like today, I am going to start tracking the actual calories that I'm eating so that I won't overeat. Starting out my goal will be 1,500 calories a day.

Today's Eats:
Banana
Pita Chips
Hummus
Lucky Charms with 1% Milk
Coffee Ice cream milkshake
Kashi Cheddar Crackers
Limeade
2 Organic Cookies
Water
2 Lean Beef Crunchy Tacos

Spinach
Tomato
Avacado
Blue Corn Chips with Beef and Cheese
Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream
Granola Bar

Pita Chips
2 Organic cookies
Pesto tortellini with sundried tomato alfredo sauce
Water
Kashi Crackers
Breyer's Ice cream (choc, vanilla, coffee) with magic shell

Day 3

Slow and steady wins the race. I went running again today and felt a little bit better. If I keep at it, I may actually end up enjoying it. The temperature here is amazing and it feels really good to be outside which is definitely a plus as far as motivation goes. I did not do any weight exercises because we are going hiking this evening with some people from William's work. I don't want to overdo it right now since I am just starting out again with exercise - too much and I'll get burned out really quickly. I will incorporate some weight exercises tomorrow though. Today I ran for 19 minutes.

Today's Eats:
Wheat toast with natural PB
Pesto pasta with sundried tomato alfredo sauce and chicken
Tomato
Water
2 organic cookies
Banana
Hummus with pita chips
Limeade
Beef Shawerma sandwich
Hummus with pita bread
Breyer's Ice cream (choc, vanilla, coffee)

Day 2

Today was much better than yesterday as far as running goes. Temperature makes all the difference in the world! I went running earlier today while it was still cool and was able to run twice as long as yesterday. It still wasn't great, but I am more encouraged. I ran for 18 minutes at the park today. Physically it was pretty hard, but I pushed myself mentally and was able to make it twice around the "track" that winds through the park. Tomorrow I will try to do some weight exercises to help boost the ole metabolism. We'll see how that goes.

Today's Eats:
Grapes
1 pc Wheat toast with natural PB
Blue Chips
Hummus
1/2 of a kiwi (yuck!)
Kashi Country Cheddar crackers
4 organic cookies
Water
Tortellini with Sundried tomato sauce
Spinach
Tomatoes
Chicken (cooked in skillet with parmesan)
Grape Juice

Soon I will be keeping track of my calories, but for starting out, I'm just tracking the things I'm eating to see where I need improvement.

Day 1

Well I'm off to a very slow start! I went running today for a total of about 8 minutes. That was as far as I could go. Granted it was in the middle of the afternoon, the hottest part of the day, but still, I've got a long way to go! I did walk some after I ran, but hopefully I will be able to build up to at least 30 minutes of running per day. I'll make it, just need some work. Eventually I'll be tracking my weight and measurements, but I don't have my scale in the hotel.

Today's Eats:
Hummus
Organic Blue Chips
Wheat toast with natural PB
Grapes
Tomato
Spinach
Avacado
2 Lean Beef taco (crunchy shell) with 2 slices of cheddar cheese and salsa
Water
3 organic cookies
Wheat toast with PB and chocolate
Granola bar

The Time Has Come

If you hadn't noticed (which I don't know how you couldn't!), I have gained a lot of weight since William and I got married a year ago last May. Before we got married, I had lost 30 pounds one semester of my freshman year in college. I lost about 5 to 10 more pounds after that and was able to keep it off with exercise and eating reasonably. Well, since being married, I have adopted all of my old eating habits of eating fried foods, desserts everyday (sometimes multiple times), and not working out on a regular basis. Now I must admit, the first time I lost a lot of weight, I did not do it in the healthiest of ways (ie starving myself somewhat frequently), so this time I want to lose weight in a healthy way that I can make a lifestyle, not just a diet. I have gained enough weight and I am tired of my clothes not fitting properly. I created this blog to hold myself accountable and to keep my spirits up while I go on this journey once again of becoming healthy and losing weight. It will probably be very boring to someone reading it, but if you're bored, go ahead. Otherwise, just know that this is mainly for me.
